SMTP test email fails: 535 authentication failed
Error 535 means your email provider rejected the username or password. The connection to the provider worked — the login itself did not. The most common cause is typing a name in the username field instead of the full email address.
- Delete the mailbox from the Mailboxes page and add it again as Custom SMTP, so nothing old carries over.
- Enter your full email address as the SMTP username, for example you@your-domain.com — never a person name, and never a name with a space in it.
- Enter the password for that email account at your email provider, not your PressFudge login password.
- Use the matching pair for your provider: Hostinger uses smtp.hostinger.com with port 465 and SSL, or port 587 with TLS.
- Click Send test email. The test goes to your PressFudge account email, not to the mailbox address you just connected, so check that inbox.
Note: If it still says 535 after those steps, the password itself is wrong. Reset it at your email provider first, then update it in PressFudge. Never share the password in chat — type it straight into the mailbox form.
